Software Engineer

Engineering
March 17, 2026

Location: San Francisco | Type: Full-time | Department: Engineering

We're looking for a Software Engineer to work directly with the founding team. This is a high-ownership role for someone who wants to build the core infrastructure and product behind an AI analyst that's already changing how commercial real estate teams work. You'll ship real features fast, work across the full stack, and operate at the center of a fast-growing AI startup where your code reaches users immediately.

What you will do

  • Build and ship product features end-to-end across Examen's AI analyst platform
  • Design and implement the systems that power on-demand deliverables — underwriting models, OM screening, quarterly valuations — for CRE professionals
  • Work across the full stack: frontend interfaces, backend services, data pipelines, and AI/LLM integrations
  • Build seamless integrations across the surfaces our users work in — web app, Excel, email, and more
  • Collaborate closely with the founding team on technical architecture decisions that shape the product's future
  • Write clean, reliable, well-tested code in a fast-moving environment where shipping matters
  • Debug and optimize performance across the platform, especially around AI-generated outputs and large financial datasets
  • Contribute to infrastructure and tooling that helps the team move faster as we scale
  • Take ownership of problems, not just tickets — identify what needs building and make the case for it

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Strong fundamentals in at least one backend language (Python, TypeScript/Node, Go, etc.) and comfort working across the stack
  • Experience building and shipping user-facing products, not just internal tools or prototypes
  • Solid understanding of databases, APIs, and system design
  • Ability to move fast, make pragmatic tradeoffs, and ship iteratively
  • Comfort with ambiguity — you can take a loosely defined problem and figure out the right approach
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset

Bonus

  • Experience working with LLMs, prompt engineering, or AI/ML pipelines in production
  • Familiarity with financial data, real estate, or building tools for professional workflows
  • Experience building Excel add-ins, email integrations, or multi-surface product experiences
  • Background in data engineering or working with large, messy real-world datasets
  • Experience at an early-stage startup or as a founding/early engineer
  • Contributions to open-source projects
  • Familiarity with infrastructure and DevOps (AWS, GCP, Docker, CI/CD)

Why this role and our culture

This role gives you a front-row seat to how a high-growth AI company is built. You'll work across every function, see how key decisions are made, and own systems that directly power the product customers rely on daily. For the right person, this can be a springboard to a founding engineer title, engineering leadership, or starting your own company.

  • In-office Monday to Friday in our San Francisco office
  • 2–3 hours blocked daily after 6:30pm for workouts and dinner
  • Subsidized gym membership, office nutrition and supplements provided

We look for people who have high integrity, are intensely competitive, and are committed to world-class engineering. If you want to write the best code of your career on problems that matter and learn faster than almost anywhere else, we'd like to meet you.
